The South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum welcomed over 23,000 visitors during the 2023/24 annual period (April 2023 - March 2024) representing our busiest year to date!
Also confirming a continuing annual trend of footfall growth, 2023/24 marks a landmark year for the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, with not only record breaking visitor numbers but the arrival of our first aircraft through the RAF Heritage programme in Hawk T.1 XX238. The museum would also like to note that none of this progress could have been achieved without the efforts, commitments and hard work from all of our volunteers.
Using the success of 2023/24, the museum is gearing up a busy summer with a number of events at the museum including the 75th anniversary celebrations for the English Electric Canberra on May 11th and 12th. This Anniversary celebration will also feature a flypast from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft on Saturday 11th May. We’ve also got a busy schedule of our ever-popular ‘Open Cockpits’ weekends and an event to mark the 25th Anniversary of the museum’s opening at Doncaster over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. In addition to our events at the museum, we will also be continuing to take our Cockpit exhibits on the road as members will be travelling to events in Norfolk, Essex, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and events closer to home to spread word of the museum. We are also pleased to confirm new additions to the museum in 2024, with the formal opening of our display dedicated to the Polish contribution to the victory of WWII and the unveiling of the Northern Battle of Britain Memorial ‘Phase One’ on May 5th.
