A generous donation has seen a new display cabinet unveiled at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum remembering the life and RAF service of Flight Lieutenant Paul Morris.
Born and raised in Doncaster, Paul joined the RAF in 1985 and would go on to fly the VC10 with No. 10 Squadron after completing his training, including a period flying Jetstream T.1’s from RAF Finningley. Paul would later join No. 39 Squadron in 2002 and flew the Canberra PR.9 including operational tours over Iraq and Afghanistan. Paul also flew a number of classic jets on the public display circuit including Meteors, Vampires and Venoms.
Sadly, during a night training flight in a Canberra T.4 on 2nd September 2004, Paul lost his life along with Flt Lt Lawrence William John Coulton when the aircraft crashed during simulated asymmetric conditions.
Among the items donated to the museum by James, Paul’s son, are his Service Medals, Flying Helmets (including one signed by the pilots from 39 Squadron), Service Records, Photographs and memorabilia from throughout Paul’s service career and many other items. We are hugely grateful to James for the generous donation and for allowing the museum to share Paul’s life and memory by displaying his collection.
