With the museum opening under our COVID-Secure measures in 2021, We've compiled this set of Frequently Asked Questions to help answer some of your questions about visiting the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum.
Do I need to prebook a ticket?
No. Pre-booking a ticket is not required to visit the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum. We have put in place a comprehensive set of measures to help keep you, our Volunteers and staff safe and have been awarded the 'Good to Go' Industry standard by Visit England. We ask that visitors please read our guidelines before coming to the museum. These can be found here.
Do I need to wear a face covering at the museum?
It is a legal requirement to wear face coverings in all indoor public spaces, including Museums (Unless exempt). As such, face coverings will now be required to be worn inside all buildings open to the public at SYAM (Museum Shop, Main Hangar, Building 19 & Building 21, Royal Observers Corps Display).
When are you open?
The museum is open from 10:00 until 17:00 Tuesday to Sunday (Last entry at 16:00).
What measures have you put in place to make the museum safe to visit?
Our full COVID-Secure measures can be found here, but in brief we have:
Implemented a one-way system around the museum buildings,
Introduced an enhanced cleaning regime across the site, including the toilet facilities,
Suspended some of our interactive displays (Dressing Up Room, Open Cockpits)
Hand Sanitiser available at entrances and exits to buildings.
Is there a time limit on how long I can visit for?
No, There isn't a time limit on any visits to the museum . We have added extra socially distanced outdoor seating, so why not bring a picnic and explore a little longer? We also have a limited range of pre-packed snacks and drinks available in the shop.
Can I use cash in the museum shop?
Cash can be used in the museum shop but, wherever possible, we would encourage the use of contactless payments.
Are your Toilet Facilities open?
Our toilet facilities are open as usual, and we have implemented an enhanced cleaning routine for the toilet facilities and across the site in line with our COVID-Secure risk assessment.
Do I need to bring hand sanitiser?
We have placed hand sanitiser points around the museum sites at the entrances and exits to buildings. If you would feel comfortable bringing your own hand sanitiser, we would encourage you to do so. We would also encourage visitors to regularly wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds before eating, drinking and after visiting the toilet facilities in line with the NHS and Government guidelines.
Are any of the cockpits open to visitors?
In line with the Government's guidelines, we have closed the majority of the usually open cockpits across the site. The Scout and Robinson R22 in the main hangar remain open to visitors, and we have placed hand sanitiser and surface cleaners alongside the cockpits and request that any visitors entering the cockpits use the surface cleaner and hand sanitiser before and after entering the cockpit.
